Privacy Policy

Overview

PlayCast is a broadcast tool. It uses your phone's camera, microphone, and internet connection to stream and record youth sports. Your recordings, clips, overlays, and game information stay on your device unless you choose to share them. PlayCast does not collect, upload, or store your personal information or your content on any PlayCast server.

Permissions PlayCast Uses and Why

Camera

Required to capture video for live streaming and local recording. PlayCast streams your camera feed directly to the destination you choose, such as YouTube. The video is never sent to or stored by PlayCast.

Microphone

Required to capture audio alongside your video for broadcasts and recordings. Audio goes directly into your stream and local recording, not to PlayCast.

Storage

PlayCast writes video segments, recordings, and clips to your device's storage. You control these files. PlayCast does not upload them anywhere unless you explicitly choose to.

Internet

Required to send your live stream to the destination you configure and to communicate with the YouTube API if you use YouTube live streaming.

Network and WiFi State

PlayCast monitors your network connection to maintain stream quality, detect signal strength, and run speed tests before a broadcast. No network data is sent to PlayCast; it is used on-device only to keep your stream stable.

Location for WiFi Scanning

Android requires location permission to scan for nearby WiFi networks. PlayCast uses this only to display available networks so you can connect to venue WiFi before a broadcast. PlayCast does not record, store, or transmit your location.

Photos for Team Logos

If you choose to add a team logo, PlayCast accesses your photo library to let you pick an image. The image is stored locally on your device and used in your scoreboard overlay. It is not uploaded to PlayCast.

Saved WiFi Credentials

If you choose to save a venue WiFi network, PlayCast stores the network name and password locally on your device so it can reconnect automatically during future broadcasts. These credentials are protected using Android security features where available and are never uploaded to PlayCast.

Google Sign-In and YouTube

If you choose to stream through YouTube, PlayCast uses Google Sign-In to connect your account. PlayCast may receive your name, email address, Google account ID, and profile picture to identify your account and maintain your session on the device.

PlayCast uses Google Sign-In to authenticate securely, connect your YouTube account, identify available YouTube channel information needed for streaming, and maintain your authorized session.

PlayCast uses the YouTube Data API to create live broadcasts you request, manage those broadcasts, prepare a live stream destination, and help you go live from the app.

PlayCast does not access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or Google Contacts. PlayCast does not sell Google account information or use it for advertising.

This information is stored locally on your device using Android security features where available. PlayCast does not transmit it to any PlayCast server.

PlayCast's YouTube features use YouTube API Services. By using them you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and your information is also governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

You can revoke PlayCast's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page. Doing so immediately ends PlayCast's ability to create or manage broadcasts on your channel.

PlayCast's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

PlayCast is not affiliated with Google or YouTube.

Sharing, Transfer and Disclosure of Google User Data

PlayCast does not share, transfer, or disclose Google user data to any third party.

Specifically, PlayCast does not:

  • transfer Google user data to any server operated by PlayCast — there is no PlayCast server, and none of this data leaves your device;
  • share Google user data with any data processor, service provider, analytics provider, advertising network, or affiliate — PlayCast uses no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or crash-reporting services of any kind;
  • sell, rent, or license Google user data to anyone, for any purpose;
  • use Google user data to build profiles, train machine-learning or AI models, or for any form of advertising or personalisation.

The only party your Google user data is sent to is Google itself. Your access token is used from your device to call Google's own APIs (googleapis.com) so that PlayCast can create and manage the live broadcast you asked for on your own channel, and your video is sent from your device directly to YouTube's ingest servers. No intermediary receives it.

PlayCast would disclose Google user data only if compelled by valid legal process. In practice PlayCast holds none — it is stored on your device, not ours — so there would be nothing for us to produce.

How Google User Data Is Protected

Google user data handled by PlayCast is protected by the following measures:

  • Encrypted storage on your device. OAuth access and refresh tokens, your Google account ID, name, email address and profile picture are stored using Android's encrypted storage (Android Keystore–backed EncryptedSharedPreferences, via Expo SecureStore). They are never written to unencrypted app storage, to shared storage, to the photo library, or to logs.
  • Encryption in transit. All calls to Google APIs are made over HTTPS/TLS. Live video is published to YouTube over RTMPS (TLS on port 443).
  • No server-side copy. Because PlayCast has no backend, there is no database, no cloud storage, and no server log containing Google user data. Data at rest exists only on your own device, under your device's own lock screen and full-disk encryption.
  • Least privilege. PlayCast requests only the scopes required to create and manage your own live broadcast. It does not request access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts, or any restricted scope, and it does not read data belonging to any channel other than your own.
  • Revocation and deletion under your control. Signing out of PlayCast revokes the token with Google immediately and erases the stored copy from your device. You can also revoke access at any time from your Google Account permissions page, and uninstalling the app removes all stored credentials.
  • Access control. Tokens are readable only by the PlayCast app under Android's application sandbox, and are fetched from encrypted storage at the moment they are used rather than being held in memory or passed between components.

What PlayCast Does Not Do

  • PlayCast does not collect or store your data on any PlayCast server.
  • PlayCast does not sell your information.
  • PlayCast does not use your information for advertising.
  • PlayCast does not access your recordings, streams, or clips.

No PlayCast Cloud Storage

PlayCast does not operate a cloud storage service for your recordings, clips, broadcasts, or account information. Everything remains on your device unless you choose to upload content to a third-party service such as YouTube.

Your Content Is Yours

Everything PlayCast records stays on your device until you choose to share or delete it. You decide what to do with your footage: upload it, share it, archive it, or delete it. PlayCast has no access to it.

Subscriptions

If you purchase a PlayCast subscription, payment processing, billing, and subscription management are handled entirely by Google Play. PlayCast does not receive or store your payment information.

Data Retention and Deletion

PlayCast retains Google user data only for as long as you stay signed in, and only on your own device. Because there is no PlayCast server, there is no copy for us to retain: OAuth tokens, your Google account ID, name, email address and profile picture are held in your device's encrypted storage for the life of the session and no longer.

Signing out of PlayCast revokes the token with Google and erases the stored copy from your device immediately. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. Neither action leaves a copy anywhere else, because there is nowhere else.

Your recordings, clips and game data are kept on your device until you delete them. PlayCast never sets an expiry on your own footage and never removes it for you.

You can remove PlayCast data at any time by signing out of your Google account within the app, clearing app storage in Android Settings, deleting recording files from your device storage, uninstalling the app, or revoking PlayCast access in your Google Account permissions.

Children's Privacy

PlayCast is intended for parents, coaches, teams, leagues, and organizations managing sports broadcasts. It is not directed at children under 13. PlayCast does not knowingly collect information from children.

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
